       an
EXPERIENCE

THE BRAND

No trends, no repetition and never boring. Here, we trust our gut, we have no playbook, and we are constantly evolving and experimenting - because we simply couldn't imagine doing this any other way. To quote the iconic Martha Stewart, "when you're through changing, you're through". This is the motto we live by. This is how we remain relevant and contemporary, yet all together timeless. After all, when has art ever gone out of style?

THE PHOTOGRAPHER

My primary medium is film - portraits, families and editorial, entirely so - but most weddings contains a mix of both analog and digital. The end result is part documentary, part editorial and, entirely, an artistic representation of the people photographed. I travel all over the country, and world, for my work as a wedding and portrait photographer. I was a traveler before I began this pursuit in photography and now I get to travel, doing something that I love, for people that leave me with a remarkable sense of fulfillment. I want my work to communicate a certain honesty and sincerity, that reflects the passion I have for photography and the joy I receive in sharing this journey with others. Photography is a collaborative effort and I am here to bring out the best in you.

I've been trying to write this review for a week, and the best thing I can come up with is this: hiring Brian as your wedding photographer will be the single best decision you make in your planning process. Brian was a recommendation from our wedding planner and I fell in love with the vivid, real style of his work immediately. What really sealed the deal, though, was talking to him about it. His passion for photography was so tangible, and it was obvious that he would pour himself into capturing our wedding as if it was the most important day he would ever document.

5 stars doesn’t even do Brian justice!!!! Hiring Brian as our wedding photographer was by far the best decision we made throughout the planning process. Our families and friends have been singing his praises ever since the wedding day (...) He has a way of making you feel so comfortable, and he has the perfect balance of following the couple’s natural lead while also offering some direction. During our wedding weekend, I’m not sure where we would’ve been without Brian. He has such a calm, caring presence that really made the day that much more perfect. He’s a very empathic person who is able to read the room/vibe in any moment, and you could tell he genuinely loves what he does. If you ask our parents, by the end of the weekend we considered him family! He just got us.

Brian is probably the most talented photographer I have ever encountered (...) Come wedding day, Brian fit seamlessly in with our family and friends. We received so many comments about how gracious, kind, and committed to his craft he was from our people (...) It feels strange to say I walked away from the wedding planning process with a friend, but that's how it feels with Brian.

THE
STUDIO

is my home portrait studio and editorial photography brand in Charleston, South Carolina. The space began out of a curiosity and admiration for the classical qualities of studio bridal portraiture, but my fascination quickly expanded into other avenues of photography - fashion, commercial and professional portraiture, boudoir, heirloom and fine art and even documenting families. The portrait studio is my space to create. It's my space to build and explore, while simultaneously stripping away all of the distractions and influences of the outside world. Shot entirely on film, my studio and portrait work aims to be timeless but art-forward, polished but experimental. Whether you are looking to have your bridal portraits taken in studio, need a portrait for a professional setting or project or are simply looking to document you as you are, as you exist in this moment in time, Studio Smith Brian is here to capture it.
